Warhammer High Elves
The Warhammer High Elves are a race of Elves which were, at one point, the most powerful race to inhabit the Warhammer world. The High Elves were then divided into three elf races, and now remain as a mere shadow of their former glory.
Warhammer High Elves are a great army to collect and play with, even for beginners because they are comprised of a powerful combination of some of the best mages, magic items, and elite warriors. The High Elves are a quick and flexible force, however lack the staying power and are physically weaker then other armies. However their specialized units more then make up for this drawback.Personally, I am not the biggest fan of the whole elf thing, however I do like the High Elves; they just have a great miniature range, with great rules! First of all, there is the “Always strike first” special rule for all Warhammer High Elves, which, you guessed it, always strike first.
A Warhammer High Elf Mage is typically one of the best spell casters in the game, second to the ancient and revered Slann Mage Priests, and the special mage characters.
They also have a huge stockpile of magic items which can turn the tables of the game around.
And don’t get me started on how awesome the new Dragon looks like… man that thing gets me tempted to start up a High elf army. It does however have its drawbacks. Being a large target basically allows everything to see it, not pretty if you’re facing an army with a load of shooting in it. Secondly, that puny rider with has a mere toughness 3 – disgusting when you want the dragon to fight. I mean he always dies right when you don’t need him to… Something to take advantage with when you play High Elves: Speed, Speed, Speed! Warhammer High Elves are wickedly fast, and tend to get into combat fast. And even if you get charged, who cares? You strike first anyways.
High Elves have some pretty heavy hitters, such as Swordmasters. However don’t expect them to stick around very long if you don’t use them properly, because of their toilet paper armor. Seriously. Most people will shoot the magic out of the Swordmasters, as they never want to fight them in combat. (Two Strength 5 attacks always strike first PER model??? Come on now…) White Lions: They have an astonishing strength six in combat, (for an elf?) however they only have one attack. They are good at killing stuff, but can’t take a slap in the face too many times or they will go down. Phoenix Guard are pretty resistant, they have the staying power many High Elves are lacking. They have a 4+ ward save (you heard me) which makes them hard as hell to take down. However they are balanced out by having a mere strength four attack in combat. So do not throw yourself at a Monster… you’ve been warned. There are many more things to cover, but there are plenty of other resources that can give you advice from an experienced High Elf players’ point of view. (I don’t play High Elves, I play against them a lot!)
